Pointless websites

Somewhere in the history of the web, someone decided that a page did not need a purpose. These pointless websites are the result: single-joke, no-signup, entirely committed pages that do one thing and then stop.

Eel Slap is exactly what it sounds like. Cat Bounce lets you launch cats around your screen, and the harder you throw, the more they cry. Endless Horse grows a longer horse the further you scroll, though it only works over plain HTTP, so use the address on its profile. Pointer Pointer matches your cursor with a photograph of a stranger pointing at it. Bouncing DVD Logo asks only that you wait for the perfect corner hit.

Why do they work? Because a good useless site is a tiny act of craft. Someone cared enough to make the cats bounce right. The joke lands in thirty seconds, and then you send the link to someone you like.

This is the brand's front door, so we are strict: the site has to load, the gag has to land, and it should not be trying to sell you anything. Many are desktop-only, and a few have content notes, which we show on the card.

When you are ready for more, the full useless websites list goes deeper, and Odd Sites to Waste 5 Minutes is for people on a clock. Prefer chaos? Take me somewhere odd.

Frequently asked questions

What is a pointless website?

A pointless website is one with no practical purpose, built purely for a joke, a toy or an idea. Think of a page where you slap a face with an eel or launch bouncing cats. The best ones are quick, free and work without signing up for anything.

Are useless websites safe?

The ones listed here are checked daily for dead links, parked domains and hijacked redirects. That is not a security audit, but it catches the common failure of an old joke site being taken over. A few require plain HTTP or carry content notes, and the profile page says so.

What is the most famous useless website?

The Useless Web is the best-known site that collects them behind a single button. Among individual sites, Pointer Pointer, Cat Bounce, Eel Slap and The Password Game are perennial favorites. Our own button does a similar job, with a no-repeat history and filters for mood and time.

How long do these pointless websites take?

Most take thirty seconds to five minutes, and that is part of the appeal. Each profile has a time-to-enjoy badge that says 30 sec, 5 min or rabbit hole. A handful, like Cookie Clicker or The Long Doge Challenge, are more dangerous than they look.
