random.dog

random.dog does exactly what the name suggests. Each time you load or refresh the page, it serves up a random dog picture or video, with the greeting Hello World, this is dog. It claims to hold around a thousand immortal puppers, which is the kind of boast we respect. There is no menu to learn, no account and no clever mechanic: you look at a dog, you refresh, and you look at another. The pleasure is the variety, since the files range from stills to short clips, and the surprise that comes with not knowing which you will get. It is simple, wholesome and endlessly watchable, and a perfect sixty-second break between tasks. Because the media is random, we have not reviewed every file, so use judgment if you are opening it somewhere public. It works on phones and desktops. If one dog is not enough, RandomFox on our list does the same trick with foxes, and the useless category has plenty more.
