Ambient Chaos

Ambient Chaos is a sound mixer with one unusual idea. Instead of only offering calming sounds like rain, waves and forests, it puts those next to chaotic ones such as construction work, a marching band and a zombie invasion. You choose which to layer and how loud each should be.

The page pitches itself as a way to sleep to rain mixed in with arguing couples, which is a joke, but it is also a working soundscape tool: you can build a gentle mix, a ridiculous one or something in between. The sliders respond immediately, so experimenting is easy.

It is part of Neal Agarwal's neal.fun collection and works on phones. It needs sound, so check your volume before you start; a zombie invasion at full volume is a good way to startle a roommate. It takes about five minutes to explore. Use it as background noise, a comedy toy, or both at once.
