Strange websites that shouldn't exist (but do)
Every so often you meet a website and think: why would anyone build this, and who is paying for it? These strange websites exist because someone had an idea they could not let go of. Odd websites, unusual websites, whatever you call them, they are the heart of this directory.
Endless Horse is a horse whose name has an absurdly long run of o's, and the more you scroll, the more horse you get. The Million Dollar Homepage is a grid of tiny ads sold in 2005, still online, and a monument to a great idea and to link rot. The Library of Babel holds every possible page of text. Your World of Text is an infinite text canvas shared with strangers. Infinite Mac boots a classic Macintosh inside a browser tab with emulation, and Windows 93 is a fake operating system that never existed.
What do they have in common? They take something small seriously. They are also fragile, because strange sites are exactly the kind that get abandoned. That is why we check every link daily, and why a few entries come with a note, like a plain-HTTP link or a content warning.
Use "Surprise me from this list" for a random pick, or read from the top: the first eight are the strangest and the most reliable. If one of these pulls you in, you have our sympathy and the clock on every card.

How we picked. Strange does not mean random. Each site here has an idea at its center that makes you ask "how?" or "why?", and a reliable page behind it. We favor sites with a long life, since a site that has survived years has earned its place.
A tour by temperament.
- Technical wonders: Infinite Mac, Webamp and DOS Zone run old software without installing anything.
- Thought experiments in a tab: Universal Paperclips turns a clicker game into a story about paperclip maximization, and NUKEMAP is a serious educational tool, so read the room.
- Radio from far away: Priyom.org tracks number stations, and WebSDR lets you tune real receivers from your browser.
- Machine-made nonsense: This Rental Does Not Exist and This Person Does Not Exist generate things that never were.
A word on risk. Odd sites can be unpolished. Some use plain HTTP or old certificates, and we point this out where we know it. We do not run a malware scanner, we only confirm that links are alive and not parked or hijacked.
Where next. The Weird Websites list is the broader tour, Hidden Gems digs deeper, and the Internet Culture category covers the folk history. Or press the button.
Frequently asked questions
What are the strangest websites that exist?
The Library of Babel, Endless Horse, Windows 93, Your World of Text and the Million Dollar Homepage are all strong candidates. They are strange in different ways: philosophical, silly, chaotic, collaborative and historical. Each is on this list and checked daily.
What does it mean when a website is unusual or odd?
Here it means a site whose central idea is unexpected: a horse that gets longer, an infinite library, a fake operating system. It does not mean broken or scary. We pick sites that are well made, free to use and safe in content.
Are strange websites safe to visit?
We check every entry daily for dead links, parked domains and hijacking, and we avoid adult, gambling and malware. A link check is not a security audit, so use normal care. Some strange sites use plain HTTP, and we mark that on their profiles.
Why do some strange websites disappear?
Domains lapse, hosting costs add up and creators move on. Quirky projects are especially vulnerable. When a site dies in this directory, it moves to a rest-in-peace page with a link to its archived copy, so you can still see what it was.
